I think most of us who follow blogs or vlogs regularly find ourselves lusting after, or buying (!), items that have been featured. After all, this is why bloggers with huge followings are touted as ‘influencers’ as their recommendations lead to sales as surely as a celebrity endorsement. In fact these days the influencers probably result in more sales than the celebrity endorsements as bloggers create more of a relationship with their followers so their recommendations are trusted, whereas there is often a feeling that a celebrity might not even use the product, and is only in the ad for the pay check.
So, I thought it might be fun to have a semi regular series on things I’ve ended up buying as a result of blogger recommendations! There’s a mix of inexpensive and more expensive purchases here. I’ll let you know which blogger is to ‘blame’ too!
Ciara recommended the NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Milk as a particularly favourite of hers. It only costs €7 in Boots, although Amazon was cheaper at the time of writing, if you don’t mind waiting for delivery. I find it so great for making my eyes look brighter and less tired – even if the baby has been up all night teething!
Another thing I purchased as a result of one of Ciara’s videos was a Lelini Silk Pillow case. I read the The Curly Girl Handbook about 7 months ago and have been following the method every since, and my curls have never looked better (future blog post!). The author recommends sleeping on satin or silk if you can as it doesn’t leach moisture from your hair. I’d heard there were great skin benefits as well. I initially got a cheaper pillowcase from Amazon to try it out and it’s been so amazing for both my skin and hair that I now can’t sleep with anything else. So I decided to upgrade to a silk pillowcase and Lelini were recommended by Ciara, they are also an Irish company which is always nice.
Ciara O’Doherty & Lily Pebbles
These ladies can share joint custody of this one! A pricey purchase! My new Olympus Pen E-PL8. Ciara did a video reviewing the camera she uses for all her photography and vlogs (the E-PL7). I was on the market for a camera so after a little additional research, including watching a review by Lily Pebbles as well, I decided this would be the perfect camera for me. I got mine from Jessops as they were doing a deal with the camera plus the 45mm lens, which put it as the cheapest I could find online. It has just arrived and I can’t wait to start playing with it!
Erika of Retro Flame showed a wristlet wallet in one of her videos – I can’t remember what brand it was and I haven’t been able to find the video again to check. But I just loved the idea of something that fits your phone and cards, and that I could just loop over my wrist rather than bringing out a whole bag. So much of the time I have a nappy bag with me as my main bag, and it’s so much easier to toss the wristlet in, rather than a separate wallet and phone. I ended up going for this Michael Kors one which is such a fun colour! I checked it out in store first to make sure it it did fit my phone even though I have a chunky cover on it but they only had it in black so I decided to buy online. I love that it opens out flat too, so much easier to get things in and out!
I’ve also ended up buying some beauty blenders. I can’t hold any one blogger responsible here as they ALL seem to use them. Which definitely convinced me to give it a go. I’ve always applied my foundation with my fingers as I just never got on with a brush. However, I love the finish the blender gives, very glowy and makes me look less tired. Again, anything that helps me look less like a tired-mom-of-two is a winner in my book!
So there you have it, the first instalment of my ‘a blogger made me buy it’ series, Ciara O’Doherty definitely has a lot to answer for this round! Have you bought anything because of a blogger? Let me know in the comments!
Please note that some of the above links are affiliate links. Clicking them does not cost you anything, but if you end up buying the product I recommend I will get a tiny commission directly from the vendor, which might help me pay some of my blog bills!
